In Cumilla’s Muradnagar upazila, two separate cases have been filed against 16 people, including Yusuf Abdullah Harun, former Awami League MP of Comilla-3 (Muradnagar) constituency, on charges of extortion from fish farm and attempt to kill a businessman. Another 50 to 57 unidentified people have been accused in the case. Upazila sadar businessman Alamgir Hossain and advocate Mohsin Mia filed the cases of extortion at Muradnagar police station on Tuesday night.
Alamgir Hossain, the plaintiff in the case, is the son of Naib Ali of Muradnagar Sadar. Advocate Mohsin Mia, the plaintiff in the other case, is the son of the deceased Abdul Malek of Darikandi village in Dhamghar Union of Upazila. According to the details of the case, on the night of March 20, 2020 (Friday), Alamgir Hossain, the owner of Mohammadiya Electronics, near the bus stand of Upazila Sadar, was in his shop on the orders of former MP Yusuf Abdullah Haroon. 40/45 activists and terrorists came to his shop with indigenous weapons and demanded tk 10 lakhs. As the businessman Alamgir Hossain refused to pay the contribution, they hacked him to death with native weapons and beat him severely, leaving bloody wounds on his head, hands and feet. Three hundred and seventy thousand rupees in the store’s cash was taken away. In this case, 45 people have been named as unknown accused in addition to 15 named in the statement.
Advocate Mohsin, the plaintiff in the extortion case, said that in 2019, 300 kani land was taken from the farmers in Darikandi Bill of Dhamghar Union of Muradnagar Upazila for 12 years and a fish project called Molla Fisheries was established. For fish farming in this project, we pay an annual rent of Tk 16 lakh 66 thousand to Mizanur Rahman of Barpara village of Daudkandi upazila. After fishing in the project, when Mizanur Rahman came to fish on September 10, 2020, on the orders of former MP Yusuf Abdullah Haroon, Rafiqul Islam (10/15 terrorists led by Tia Rafiq) of Khamar village of Bangra Bazar police station of the upazila came and stopped fishing in Molla Fisheries Project and demanded Tk. 25 lakh. In this case, Rafiqul Islam took 16,000 rupees of the project’s rent in the presence of former MP Along with Islam, 10/12 unknown people have been made accused.
In this regard, Muradnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubul Haque said that 2 cases have been registered in the Police Station on charges of attempted murder and extortion. Necessary measures will be taken if the truth of the investigation is found.
