Md. Nur Islam Nayan, Dinajpur Correspondent : A view exchange meeting was held with journalists in Dinajpur with the aim of school orientation and rehabilitation of vulnerable working children. The meeting was organized by World Vision Bangladesh, Dinajpur AP at the NGO Forum Office in Suihari on Saturday (December 21, 2024) at 11 am.
The meeting discussed child labor prevention and rehabilitation activities under the project “Protecting Children from Violence and Threats Caused by Hazardous Labor”. World Vision Bangladesh is implementing the project (PCV) as part of the Child Labor (PNS) project.
Richard Taposh, Program Officer of World Vision Bangladesh, said that they are working to create educational opportunities for children engaged in hazardous labor, ensure social security and raise awareness in the Dinajpur region. The project emphasizes the active participation of local communities, families and the media in eliminating child labor.
He further said that to prevent the use of children in drug smuggling, to free children from risky professions, cash assistance, business capital, three-wheeled vans, cows and goats have been provided to the poorest families, and opportunities for education and sports have been created for children through six learning centers. He expressed hope that through this initiative, children will be able to play a role in the development of the country by being educated.
The journalists present at the meeting praised the initiative and said that the media can play an important role in raising public awareness in preventing child labor and implementing the project.
Dinajpur Press Club General Secretary Md. Golam Nabi Dulal, Journalists Union Dinajpur (2936) Assistant General Secretary Abdus Salam, Journalists Kashi Kumar Das, Md. Rustom Ali, Sharmin Zaman Tonu, Md. Khademul Islam, Md. Noor Islam, Md. Rezaul Karim, Md. Abul Kashem, Md. Salauddin Ahmed delivered the closing speech, journalists from electronic and print media, World Vision Bangladesh Officer Md. Belal Hossain and other media workers, NGO representatives and child welfare experts participated in the meeting. The speakers called for ensuring a safe future for vulnerable children through further expansion and monitoring of the project activities.
World Vision officials said that public-private cooperation is very important in implementing this initiative. They expressed hope that the project will be implemented more effectively with the support of all concerned quarters including the government.
