Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stayed in India for a long time, but the relationship between Delhi and Dhaka will not be damaged, the foreign affairs advisor of the interim government has expressed the opinion. Touhid Hossain.

He briefed foreign diplomats at Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Monday (August 12). Later, he expressed this opinion in response to a question from journalists.

Towhid Hossain said that if former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stays in India for a long time, there will be tension in relations with Bangladesh or not, it is a very hypothetical question. If one has gone to a country, then why will the relationship with them be destroyed? There is no reason for that.

He said, bilateral issue is a big issue. It is a relationship of interest. Both parties have interests. As India has interests, we also have interests. So we will follow that interest. We should try to maintain good relations.

Referring to the reason for the diplomats’ briefing, Tauhid Hossain said that the ambassadors have been called. It has been said in what context the government has come. We have stated our purpose. Those who bring about change through a mass upheaval have certain claims. They will not seek any discrimination. This government is working for that purpose.

He said, we have sought the help of the international community. They came forward. We have said that we want to engage with the international community bilaterally and multilaterally. In all cases with everyone including the United Nations. There have been some questions regarding the Rohingya issue, investment. We said, they should not be disappointed. Such a big change, some things may take time.

Tauhid Hossain said, an ambassador said, the youth did such a great job. Let there be a leadership among the youth. As I said, there are two students in the council. Many of them have human rights. We said, serious about human rights.

In addition to bringing back the former prime minister, he said that there was no question about bringing back the former prime minister. So we drop it now. Not a word about the election. I made it clear. The main goal of this government is to hold an election and transfer power. There is no doubt about it.

We are not talking about time. Did the students give life to go back to the previous position? They have something to ask for. Some reforms will be needed. We will take the time we need, not more, not less. The reforms should be brought at least on the way. No one can do everything, what the students want can be brought to the way.

In response to the question of stalling various engagements with friendly countries in the plans of the outgoing government, the foreign affairs adviser said, “Right now we are… But we are not going to turn away from anything. With those who have agreements or commitments at the international level or in bilateral matters, they must be protected. Where we feel that interests are undermined, our interests will be seen.
