23 structures above the canal of Medda Crematorium in Brahmanbaria Municipal area have been vacated. Besides, soil has been removed from filling some parts of the canal. The evacuation operation was conducted by the municipality from 8 am to 6:30 pm on Friday.

Sources of Brahmanbaria municipality informed that the canal of Medda Shashmanghat in the municipal area has been filled due to garbage and encroachment. The length of the canal is about 600 meters. Residents of Medda area appealed to Brahmanbaria municipality to save the canal. Brahmanbaria Municipality Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at around eight o’clock on Friday morning. A. Sub-Assistant Engineer (Civil) Suman Dutta of Brahmanbaria Municipality said, ‘The canal in Medda Shashman Ghat area was encroached with filling. Friday’s operation restored the canal from Medda Shashmanghat to the graveyard. During this time, 23 shops built by filling the canal bank were evacuated and soil was removed from there. This eviction program will be conducted on Saturday as well.
