Environmental Advisor announces zero tolerance policy against corruption

Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan has announced zero tolerance policy against corruption. He said that if any officer of the Department of Environment and Forest shows any kind of corruption, irregularity and negligence in the conservation and development of environment and forest, exemplary legal action will be taken against them. He said that the forests of the country should be kept as forests and the concerned officials should work round the clock to improve the quality of the country’s environment.
The environment adviser said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the Forest Department visit and exchange meeting with the officials for the first time after assuming office on Wednesday afternoon.
Ordering to take legal action against the existing irregularities in Kataban bird market of the capital, Rizwana Hasan said that the Wildlife Crime Prevention Unit of the Forest Department should conduct regular monitoring here. Legal measures should be taken to stop all types of illegal bird trade and against traders who behave cruelly to birds. Ekaje urged the students to cooperate. He urged the concerned parties to determine the boundaries of the forest on a priority basis to stop encroachment on the forest.
All officials of the Department of Forests including the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Additional Secretaries, the Chief Conservator of Forests and the Divisional Forest Officer were present in the exchange meeting.
Earlier in the morning, the Environment Advisor visited the Department of Environment and interacted with the officials. During this time, he gave instructions to take effective steps to stop the cutting of mountains and hills, pollution of rivers. He gave instructions to ensure transparency and accountability in the activities of the department including issuing environmental clearance. He said that the complaint redressal system should be strengthened in order to settle the complaints of the people at the earliest. Calling on officials to improve their skills, the adviser said, people’s confidence should be brought back through visible and fruitful work.
In the exchange meeting, the Environment Advisor listened to the problems, prospects and challenges of the Department of Environment and Forests and assured to take necessary measures.
