Apart from this, the government employees are going to get another three-day holiday in the same month. Next May 11 (Sunday) is Buddha Purnima holiday. They have a two-day weekend before that. That is, they are getting three days off twice in the same month. Before this, the government employees spent a long holiday on the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. On the occasion of Eid, the government had already announced a five-day holiday. Later, the government decided to give another day holiday on April 3 by executive order. As a result, government employees spent 9 consecutive days off from March 28 to April 5.
As per the leave rules, there is no rule to take casual leave between two holidays. If taken, it will become a long holiday. However, there is an opportunity to take earned leave. There is also an opportunity to take optional leave.
Every employee is required to take prior approval of the concerned authority for availing three days optional leave as per his religion at the beginning of the year. The Ministry of Public Administration says that offices whose schedule and holidays are governed by their own laws (such as Bangladesh Bank) or offices, organizations and institutions whose jobs (related to emergency services) have been declared as essential by the government, will announce these holidays considering the public interest according to their own laws.
