Eid-ul-Azha holiday extended by one day. The cabinet has approved the holiday on June 27. The Cabinet took this decision in view of the recommendations of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. The Cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office on Monday (June 19). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over it.
An unnamed minister who attended the cabinet meeting confirmed the approval of the leave. The minister, who has an office in building number 6 in the secretariat, said that the holiday has been extended by one day (June 27). Government officials and employees are getting five consecutive days off from June 27 to July 1 this Eid. The second major religious festival of Muslims, Eid-ul-Azha or the Eid of Sacrifice, will be celebrated on June 29, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti has demanded that the Eid holiday be extended by one day without the recommendation of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. After the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order in the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 13, Chairman of the Committee and Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque told reporters that we have recommended Eid holidays from June 27 so that people can easily go to villages during Eid. The Cabinet will take necessary steps in this regard.
He said, our Qurbani Eid is ahead. At this time law and order should not be Ye (chaos). Bengalis are always homely. We all want to celebrate Eid with our parents and relatives. Because of this many times even risking their lives (many go home), many people die. Last Eid Alhamdulillah the trip was quite comfortable. There were not so many ye (accidents) as in other years.
At the same time, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said in response to reporters’ questions after a meeting on the situation of law-abiding law enforcers during Eid-ul-Azha at the Secretariat on Sunday (June 18) that this (extending one day holiday on Eid) is a proposal, we think it is a logical proposal. The recommendation has gone to the Cabinet, from where the decision will be taken.
Besides, in a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters Unit in Segunbagicha of the capital on Sunday to demand an end to ‘unbearable traffic jams, harassment of passengers on the way, anarchy of collecting extra fares and road accidents’, the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association also demanded to extend the Eid holiday by one day (June 27).
The organization said that about 80 lakh people will go to their villages from Dhaka this Eid, on June 28, the start of the scheduled public holiday, if all the passengers in all classes of public transport across the country get off the road together, the traffic situation may go into a coma. Due to this, if June 27 is declared as a public holiday, the passenger pressure may reduce a little.
