The Daulatdia-Paturia waterway will be on high alert to ensure smooth passage of passengers and vehicles on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. In addition, 17 ferries and 20 launches will ply on the Daulatdia-Paturia waterway to ensure smooth passage.
This information was given at a coordination meeting held at the Goalanda Upazila Parishad conference room on Sunday (March 23) at 1:30 pm to ensure smooth management of the wharf and smooth movement of passengers to ensure the movement of watercraft including ferries, launches and other vessels on the Daulatdia-Paturia waterway on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr 2025.
In order to ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers on roads, highways, bridges and railways on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, trucks, covered vans and lorries will not ply on the highways for 6 days before and after Eid.
Under the chairmanship of Goalanda Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nahidur Rahman, Goalanda Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Asaduzzaman, Goalanda Ghat Police Station OC Investigation Uttam Kumar Ghosh, BIWTC Daulatdia Ghat Branch Assistant General Manager Mohammad Salahuddin, BIWTA Aricha Port Office Deputy Director Selim Sheikh, District Road Transport Owners Group President Jewel, Daulatdia Naval Police Outpost In-charge Enamul Haque, BRTA Rajbari Assistant Director Mohammad Nasir Uddin and others spoke.
At that time, BIWTA and BIWTC officials said that to ensure smooth passage of passengers and vehicles during the upcoming Eid, a few ferries will be increased to 17 ferries, eight pocket vehicle crossings between three ghats (3, 4 and 7) and 20 launches will operate. Almost all preparations for this have been completed.
In addition, the Ghat area will be free of traffic congestion and Goalanda Ghat Police Station will have several layers of security measures to prevent brokers, robbers, pickpockets, and harassment of passengers. In addition, strict measures will be taken for road traffic in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile, to stop the collection of excess fares, display a fixed fare chart and a list of ticket counters, and prevent illegal vehicle movement, a mobile court team of the Upazila administration will be present in the ghat area round the clock. In addition, the ghat area will have lighting, temporary toilets, and a breastfeeding center, along with drinking water facilities.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station OC Investigation Uttam Kumar Ghosh said, there will be several levels of security in the Ghat area to prevent passenger harassment, robbery, brokers, and traffic congestion. Already, members of the Daulatdia ferry gang have been arrested and sent to jail. They will remain in jail at least until Eid, so passengers will be safe on the ferry. Apart from this, illegal vehicle movement will also be monitored and the police will be on patrol around the clock.
Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nahidur Rahman said, this Eid the administration will be in the strictest position. To ensure the safety of passengers, mobile courts will be operated along with police patrols. If any counter charges extra money, the counter will be closed. In addition, mobile courts will be led by the executive magistrate along with the police to maintain law and order, control traffic congestion, robbers, and brokers.
