Mohammad Masud Majumder:
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forests, Climate Change and Water Resources, said, “Education is not just about earning a degree—it is a deep commitment to truth, justice and protecting the environment. Education should not just become a means of earning; rather, it should be applied in real life to change society, build the country and stand by the neglected people.”
He further said that students should join the dream of building a new Bangladesh. In any situation, justice and the interests of the country should be prioritized above all else. Encroachment on water bodies and forests should be prevented, and plastic pollution, noise pollution, deforestation and the climate crisis should be courageously resisted.
The environmental advisor made these remarks in his convocation speech at the third convocation of Central Women’s University at the convocation ceremony held at the Officers’ Club in the capital, Saturday, April 26.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the struggle for women and the environment are complementary to each other. She said that women are the most affected by the disasters caused by climate change, yet they are the least responsible. The climate struggle is a feminist movement because of this justice issue. She told the students that you are the leaders of the future, your every decision will play a role in determining the future of this world.
He further said, “We all want development, but it should not cause havoc on nature. Come on, let’s disturb nature as little as possible. Only then will nature love us. Not just jobs, you have to take responsibility for positive changes in society.” He encouraged students to invent environmentally friendly solutions in science, technology and research.
The program was addressed as the chief guest by Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar. The program was addressed as the special guest by Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Advisor Sharmin S Murshid; the program was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Parveen Hasan.
