Preparations for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga have begun in Jhalkathi district. Durga Puja is being performed in 176 Puja Mandabs in 4 Upazilas of Jhalkathi District. Sadar Upazila has the highest number of Puja Mandabs in the district with 77 and Kathalia Upazila is second with 55. Besides, there are 23 Puja Mandabs in other two upazilas, Nalchiti and 22 in Rajapur Upazila.
Idol artists are busy making idols in puja mandavs. They are going with their groups to one after another earnest puja mandabs in different areas. In some temples, after finishing the clay work, the idol is waiting to be painted, while in some temples, the second phase of the clay work is going on. According to the size of the idol in this region, idol artists are making idols ranging from a maximum of lakhs of rupees to a minimum of 40 thousand rupees. This year, due to the increase in the price of idol-making materials including clay, they will have to pay more wages than before.
The local district and upazila administrations are holding regular meetings with members of the puja celebration committee, representatives of civil society, political figures and law and order forces regarding the smooth organization of puja in the district. So far no untoward incident has occurred in the district in connection with any such puja. The leaders of the District Puja Celebration Parishad are expressing their satisfaction about the Puja organization so far.
Jhalkathi Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul said that 4 levels of security will be kept in the Puja Mandab for security and the government along with the police administration is taking all kinds of steps to ensure the smoothness of Sharadiya Durga festival at any cost.
Deputy Commissioner Farah Gul Nizhum said, this year, security measures are being taken at the Puja Mandab using maximum precautions and technology. For this reason, arrangements have been made to provide a special grant of 1 lakh rupees to each temple for the addition of CC cameras in each temple and for the construction of infrastructure.
