Angaria Union residents held a human chain and protest in Dumki of Patuakhali demanding the withdrawal of the false case against the UP Chairman. At 10:30 am on Wednesday, more than 500 men and women took part in a human chain and protest program under the banner of Angaria Union residents in front of the Angaria Union Parishad and Chairman’s house of the upazila. Sujan Jomaddar, a resident of Angaria Union and co-secretary of Upazila Jubo League, spoke at the rally before the protest. Jeddah branch (Saudi) Awami League member Salim Shikder, Angaria Union Alig former organizing secretary Abu Jafar Jomaddar, Upazila Chhatra League former general secretary Sohel Sharif and several leaders and activists of affiliated organizations of Awami League spoke. The speakers strongly demanded the withdrawal of the false case against Angaria Union Parishad Chairman Golam Mortuza Sukkur for distribution of government rice among fishermen. Besides, the speakers said that a nefarious group is introducing dirty politics by whitewashing a small issue. It is to be noted that last Saturday (June 29) around 10:30 pm, the local administration seized 300,18 sacks of official VGF rice from the house of Habib Meera at the house of Angaria UP Chairman Syed Golam Mortuza in Jalishastha village. Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Mahbubur Rahman filed a case against accused UP Chairman Syed Golam Mortuza under section 25 (a) of the Special Powers Act, 1974 at Dumki police station on Sunday night, the day after the rice was seized. And on this occasion, anti-Mortuza held a protest march and rally with the participation of some over-enthusiastic people of the political and electoral opponents. In this regard, Angaria UP Chairman Syed Ghulam Mortuza said on mobile phone that an influential group is doing this in a planned way to humiliate him socially. To save the extra cost of buying rice for poor fishermen of 7th, 8th and 9th ward of the union, he brought the rice to his house and distributed it earlier and accordingly brought it this time as well. There was no ill intent here. He is in trouble to provide benefits to the poor fishermen.
