Dumki (Patuakhali) Correspondent: Patuakhali Dumki in there have been allegations of illegal attempts to seize 67 percent of the property of innocent families under the influence of muscle power and money. An influential group in the area, led by former army officer (Major) Zakir Hossain, including Habibur Rahman Mridha, Jalil Mridha, Mao. Yusuf, is involved in an attempt to seize the property by filing multiple false and fabricated cases against the real heirs of the property, harassing and intimidating them. These allegations were made in a written statement by Harun Or Rashid Jomaddar, the authorized representative of the real heirs, at a crowded press conference at the conference room of the Press Club Dumki on Wednesday (January 8) at 11:30 am. It is stated in the written statement that the deceased Maidali Chowkidar of the same village purchased 67 percent of the land in 1972 from the owner of the records of 717, 740, 741, 743, 747, 748 and 762 dags registered under the register number 263,265,598,599,600,603 and 604 of the Dumki Mouza of the upazila on the basis of the document number 6943. After his death, the heirs have been occupying the said land by paying the prescribed revenue. The record has also been corrected in their name by creating a new register number 1327 through the registration case number 873 of the year 2020-21. For the sake of looking after, maintaining, and selling these properties, the heirs of the Maidali Chowkidar have transferred power to him (Harun Or Rashid Jomaddar) through a non-transferable power of attorney dated December 24, 1188. But without any documents or title, an influential group identified in the area started construction work last year as an attempt at forcible occupation. When they approached the court, the illegal occupants were banned from construction. Angered by this, they have started harassing the real heirs of the property, including him, by filing false cases. Among the illegal occupants, former army officer (Major) Zakir Hossain is using influence to harass them by sending army members from Patuakhali camp. Denying the accusation of using influence, retired army officer Md. Zakir Hossain made the opposite allegation and said that the kitchen of his house was set on fire three nights ago. He has informed all law enforcement agencies including the police, army and others about the matter and has filed a case in court. He has not exerted any influence. The case regarding the land acquisition is pending in court, he will accept whatever the court’s verdict is.
