A discussion meeting on “Historical Mujib Nagar Day and Independence of Bangladesh” was held at the initiative of Jhalkathi district administration. Superintendent of Police Md. Afruzul Haque Tutul spoke at the discussion meeting under the chairmanship of Farah Gul Nijhum at the Deputy Commissioner meeting room on Monday, April 17. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Jewel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Latifa Jannati, District Information Officer Md. Ahsan Kabir, officials of various government and private departments, Nalchiti Upazila Chairman Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Awami League District and Upazila leaders, NGO representatives, teachers, journalists and civil society representatives.
The speakers said that today 17 April is the historic Mujib Nagar Day. An unforgettable day in the history of freedom struggle and liberation war of Bangladesh. During the liberation war in 1971 , on this day, the first provisional government of independent Bangladesh was officially sworn in at Baidyanathtala village in Meherpur. Besides, on this day the Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh was approved. Later it was named as historical Mujibnagar from this Baidyanathtala. April 17 is a memorable day in the long journey of Bengali freedom struggle. By celebrating this day, the present generation will know the true history of the liberation war and will contribute to the formation of Bangabandhu’s dream of ‘Golden Bengal’ by being motivated by patriotism.
