Two people including night watchman Azhar Ali were killed when a tank lorry lost control in Dinajpur Sadar and rammed into a roadside tea shop. The accident took place at Kaugaon intersection of Sadar Upazila at approximately 5:30 am on Saturday (11 May-2024). The deceased night watchman Azahar Ali (60) is the son of deceased Azir Hossain of Biswanathpur village of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila.
Another store buyer said. Rana (25) is a resident of Kaugaon Hatkhola village of Sadar Upazila. Police arrested the driver and helper of the tank lorry. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Dinajpur Kotwali police station Mo Farid Hossain said that a tank lorry coming from Fulbari upazila of the district to Dinajpur town reached Kaugaon intersection of Sadar upazila at approximately 5:30 am when the driver lost control. At that time, the tank lorry entered Abdus Sobhan’s tea shop on the side of the road. Azahar Ali, the night watchman who was stationed at the tea shop, was killed on the spot. Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College rescued the injured Mo Rana who had come to the shop to eat tea admitted to the hospital. He died after being admitted to the hospital.
The police reached the spot and arrested the driver of the tank lorry, Raju Khandkar (29), son of deceased Abdus Samad Khandkar, resident of Rahini Battala area of Kushtia district, and Sohag (19), son of Shariful Islam, resident of the same district of Helper, and took the lorry into police custody.
