Dinajpur four unions of child marriage free officially declared -Additional Police Superintendent

Nur Islam Nayan, Dinajpur Correspondent : On Thursday, December 19, at the auditorium of Dinajpur Shilpakala Academy, under the slogan “My Municipality – My Union – My Responsibility, Dinajpur will be free of child marriage”, World Vision Bangladesh, Dinajpur AP and Dinajpur District Women’s Affairs Department jointly organized the event and in collaboration with the Upazila Administration, Chehelgazi, Shashra, Auliapur, Sheikhpura Union, Dinajpur Municipality and four unions were declared child marriage free by the chief guest, Additional Superintendent of Police Sadar Circle Sheikh Md. Jinnah Al Mamun.
The welcome speech was delivered by Dinajpur AP World Vision Bangladesh Senior Manager Arvind Sylvester Gomez, Deputy Director of Dinajpur Women’s Affairs Department Morshed Ali Khan, in the chair. Agreeing with the declaration of child marriage-free unions and municipalities, District Qazi Samity President Kazi Md. Abdus Sattar, Panel Chairman of No. 6 Auliapur Union Md. Gulzar Hossain, UP Member of No. 4 Sheikhpura Union Md. Nur Alam and Acting Coordinator of BLAST Dinajpur Adv. Pinak Pal Roy delivered the welcome speech. Chief guest Additional Superintendent of Police Sadar Circle Sheikh Md. Jinnat Al Mamun, while making the official declaration, said that child marriage is not just a problem, it is a social epidemic. Which can be prevented not only through law, but also through social movements. The declaration of child marriage-free status of four unions including Dinajpur Municipality today is the result of the tireless efforts of World Vision. In the president’s speech, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Morshed Ali Khan said, I think the role that the government and non-governmental development organization World Vision are playing in preventing child marriage is a commendable initiative. While delivering the welcome speech, Arvind Silvester Gomez, Senior Manager of Dinajpur AP World Vision Bangladesh, said, “Today we can see the achievements of the activities that World Vision has been conducting to protect children and prevent child marriage. This is the result of the tireless work of Geo NGOs, public representatives, journalists, Youth Forum, Children’s Forum, and members.”
