RAB has arrested Md Russell (Ibrahim) (37), one of the masterminds of extortion and dacoity gangs in Dhaka’s waterways and the accused under investigation in the murder case of Keraniganj Model Police Station, from Khunerchar area under Kalkini Police Station of Madaripur District in a joint operation. Since its inception, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been playing a leading role in bringing all types of criminals under the law to maintain the overall law and order situation in the country. RAB has been conducting regular raids to arrest militants, terrorists, organized criminals, robbers, drug dealers and absconding accused in various sensational cases including murder, kidnapping. RAB has already been able to gain people’s trust in crime control with the continuation of intelligence surveillance and raiding activities. Last September 18, 2022 AD at approximately 19:45 hours, a person called Sonia Akhtar Shimu, the wife of the victim Md. Touhidul Islam Billal (30), and informed that her husband Billal was killed by unknown persons and the body was left in Thanaghat area under Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka. After receiving the news, Billal’s wife Shimu rushed to the spot and found her husband Billal’s head bursting with blood and his body frozen with sharp weapon injuries in various parts of his body. Sonia Akhter Shimu, the wife of the deceased Billal filed a murder case against 6 people involved in the sensational Billal murder at the Keraniganj Model Police Station of Dhaka. whose case no-46, date-19/09/2022 AD, section-302/34 Penal Code. After learning about the case, all the accused involved in the murder went into hiding. After learning about the murder, an expeditionary team of RAB-10 increased intelligence surveillance with the aim of bringing the accused involved in the murder under the law. In continuation of this yesterday on 12th June 2024 at approximately 17:30 in the afternoon, the raid team of RAB-10 conducted a joint operation in Khunerchar area under Kalkini police station of Madaripur district on the basis of intelligence information and with the assistance of RAB-08. In the said raid, Md Russell (Ibrahim) (37), father-deceased Badal Chowkidar ( Masum), Sang-Betka, Thana-West Tongibari, District-Munshiganj, who was involved in the sensational Billal murder in Dhaka, was arrested. During preliminary interrogation, the arrested accused confessed his involvement in the said murder. The interrogation also revealed that the arrested accused Russell (Ibrahim) Babubazar extorts money in various waterways and local markets including Amira Bagh area. All are fed up due to extortion in boats, tugs, bulk heads and local markets. He has several cases to his name. Previously, when various law and order forces tried to arrest him, he escaped using various tactics. The arrested accused has been handed over to the concerned police station.
