Md. Habibur Rahman : The consumption and sale of marijuana and drugs has been completely banned in and around the Lalon shrine during this year’s Lalon Memorial Festival. Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Md. Taufiqur Rahman said that if anyone tries to consume or sell drugs during the memorial festival, the administration will take strict legal action.
He gave this warning while addressing the preparatory meeting organized on the occasion of Lalon Memorial Festival-2025 at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Wednesday (March 5) at 11 am. The meeting, moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Jahangir Alam, was attended by Kushtia District BNP President Qutub Uddin Ahmed, Baul Firoz Sai, Razzak Sai, Shafi Sai, Kushtia Journalists Union President Abdur Razzak Bachchu, Citizen Representative Almas Hossain Mamun and many others.
It was informed in the meeting that every year, Lalon Academy organizes a three-day Lalon Memorial Festival on Dol Purnima. However, this time, due to the holy month of Ramadan, the festival has been reduced to one day. As a result, there will be no discussion meetings, cultural programs and rural fairs in this year’s event.
Lalon Academy will provide child care to Baul devotees and fakirs on the evening and night of March 13. However, on the afternoon of the next day, March 14, the Baul fakirs holding the Khilafat will provide full care on their own initiative.
During his lifetime, the Baul Emperor Lalon Fakir used to celebrate his memorial festival with his devotees and followers on the day of Dol Purnima. In that vein, Lalon devotees, followers and Bauls celebrate this festival every year on Dol Purnima. In addition, a three-day Lalon Tirodhan Diwas is also celebrated every year in the month of October.
Although this year’s commemoration will be limited in scope, organizers hope that its spiritual and traditional importance will remain intact.
