Cox’s Bazar Municipal Mayor Mabu announced 22 points in his six-month action plan

Newly elected mayor Mahabubur Rahman Chowdhury has announced the work plan for the next 6 months on the first day of assuming the responsibility of mayor of Cox’s Bazar Municipality. He emphasized municipal drainage management, illegal encroachment and control of illegal tomtoms in this action plan. At the same time, he announced that 30 percent of the municipal tax will be waived for those who will help clear the municipal drains. He presented his work plan for the next 6 months in an exchange meeting with journalists held at the municipal conference room last Sunday (August 20). He announced the implementation of 22-point plan in his low plan. He hopes to be able to implement these action plans in the next 6 months. Mahabubur Rahman Chowdhury said that no Rohingya and anyone under the age of 18 can drive TomTom in Cox’s Bazar Municipality. At the same time, no TomTom coming from outside the city will be able to move in the city. However, if a driver from outside the city wants to drive TomTom in the municipality, he can drive TomTom by submitting the NID of his parents, brothers and sisters and collecting a free driver’s identity card from the municipality through a local jimmadar. Sustainable road renovation work will be started. In the press conference, Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury said, I have been elected mayor as the nominated candidate of Awami League. I am fiercely committed to the principles of this political party. However, I am committed to conduct all the activities of Cox’s Bazar Municipality in an honest, fair and impartial manner, above all party opinions. Everyone will get equal opportunities here. Mahabubur Rahman said, expressed gratitude to Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for nominating me for Awami League. He also expressed his deep gratitude to the journalist friends of Cox’s Bazar for their support in winning the mayoral election. According to him, it would not have been possible for a small political activist like me to be elected as the mayor of a very important municipality in the country like Cox’s Bazar Municipality, if Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of the father of the nation, would not have nominated the boat symbol. He also expressed his gratitude to all the residents of the municipality. The new mayor also expressed his gratitude for the contribution of those who have led and sacrificed to ensure the service of the people in this municipality established in 1869. On the first working day as the mayor of the municipality, Mahabubur Rahman Chowdhury started the day by signing the civic waiver file of the heroic freedom fighters. All but the newly elected four councilors were present in this press conference. Among them are Shahena Akhtar Pakhi, Yachmin Akhtar and Zaheda Akhtar, Akhtar Kamal, Mizanur Rahman, Aminul Islam Mukul, Ehechan Ullah, Shahab Uddin Sikder, Osman Sarwar Tipu, Helal Uddin Kabir and Salahuddin Setu. Those who were absent were Nachima Akhtar Bakul, Rajbihari Dash, MA Manjur and Noor Ahmad Majhu. The 22-point action plan presented by Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury in the press conference for the next 6 months is detailed below. He also announced that the views and suggestions received from the citizens of the city will be highly valued in the implementation of this action plan. 1. Nightly garbage will be collected and cleaned. 2. To build a clean city, measures will be taken to use three sizes of polybags in every house, residential building, residential hotel and restaurant for garbage collection. 3. Special public awareness programs will be initiated to discourage citizens from dumping garbage in open spaces, drains and sewers. 4. The conservancy wing will be entrusted with the responsibility of keeping the city clean and environment-friendly to a non-governmental organization through a tender process while retaining the jobs of the sevaks (cleaners) currently working in the municipality. 5. All existing large and medium-sized canals, canals and drains in Cox’s Bazar municipal area will be cleaned and water flow will be arranged. 6. Illegally occupied drains, footpaths and registered land owned by the municipality will be vacated and brought under the municipality. 7. Kastura Ghat, Jetty Ghat will be excavated and made navigable soon. 8. From Murung Chara of Baharchara to Shashman of Hindu community, all the illegal structures on the municipal chara-drain will be removed and restored to their original condition. 9. All occupants of the area from Bazarghata to Peshkarpara sluice gate through Ghonar Para will be evicted and returned to the previous state. 10. The area from Amena Khatun Girls High School to Sluice Gate via Tekpara will be de-encroached. 11. It will be excavated by evicting illegal encroachers from the drains and drains up to Pahartali-Rumaliarchhara-Mazherghat. 12. The sidewalks of various alleys of the city will be freed from encroachment. Real hawkers will be permanently resettled. 13. Illegal TomToms will not be allowed to enter Cox’s Bazar Municipal Area. Besides, effective measures will be taken with the help of the administration to prevent all illegal TomToms from operating in the city. No one under the age of 18 will be allowed to drive a TomTom. Regular operations will be conducted for this purpose. Rohingya drivers also cannot drive TomTom. 14. If any driver from other upazila wants to drive TomTom in Cox’s Bazar Municipality, he has to provide NID of parents, brothers and sisters and must be a permanent resident of Cox’s Bazar Municipality as the responsible person and collect free TomTom driver’s identity card from the municipality. 15. Municipal drains will be excavated four times a year through a tender process. 16. Illegally occupied lands owned by the municipality will be vacated soon and income-generating commercial buildings, markets, shopping malls, apartments will be constructed in the municipality. 17. 30 important roads including Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Thana Road, Bangabandhu Road, Barabazar Road, Peshkarpara Road, Tekpara Mosque Road will be renovated in a short time. 18. Municipal taxes of 20 to 30 percent will be waived with special honors to those who cooperate to clear the encroachment of illegal municipal drains, drains, etc. 19. Important roads of Cox’s Bazar municipal area have been illegally occupied and temporary stands (parking) for buses, CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and other vehicles will be removed in the interest of the public. 20. All branches of the municipal office will be reorganized to stop harassment and suffering by making all types of citizen services quickly and easily available in Cox’s Bazar Municipality. 21. In the light of the zero tolerance policy adopted by the current government regarding corruption, maximum transparency and accountability will be ensured in all the activities of Cox’s Bazar Municipality. Regular public hearings will be organized to resolve the grievances of the municipal citizens. Exemplary action will be taken after investigating any corruption complaint against any officer-employee. 22. All desired civic services will be provided at ward level to eliminate harassment and suffering of municipal citizens.
