Police arrested Akhter Hossain, the convener of the Sylhet District Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, early Sunday (March 23) following a scuffle between two parties over his speech at the Jatiya Nagorik Party’s Iftar mahfil.
Shah Paran (R.H.) Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Monir Hossain confirmed that he was arrested from the Ausha area of ​​Jalalabad Police Station in Sylhet.
According to the details of the incident, a scuffle broke out between the two sides over a speech given at the Jatiya Nagorik Party’s Iftar mahfil at the city’s Amanullah Convention Hall on Saturday. A case was filed that night naming 7-8 people. The main accused in the case is Akhter Hossain.
It is worth mentioning that on December 6 last year, the then convener of the organization, Hasnat Abdullah, and member secretary Arif Sohel approved the Sylhet district branch committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, appointing Akhter Hossain as convener, Nurul Islam as member secretary, Naeem Shehzad as chief organizer, and Maleka Khatun Sara as spokesperson.
