A person named Fakhrul Islam has been accused of occupying a 40-year-old government canal used for agricultural purposes in Ajmeru area of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. On January 31, farmer Raju Mia Sadar made a written complaint to the Upazila Executive Officer on behalf of the local residents. That afternoon, a team on the instructions of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer went to the ground and found the illegal occupation of the canal/gopat. Later they demarcated the canal/cow land. According to the complaint, Fakhrul Islam is building a boundary wall by occupying the roadside government canal/gopat in Ajmeru area of No. 11 Mustafapur Union. The location of the canal is from Mokambazar Officebazar road southward through Ajmeru area to Kodali Rhyma. It was known as Gopat about 40 years ago. Later, the canal was dug on the western side of the Gopat and the road was built on the eastern side. Another person along with Fakhrul Islam is building a boundary wall by occupying several parts of the said canal. In this regard, some farmers who benefited from the local area objected to the construction of the old border by occupying the canal. Fakhrul Islam Gangra started the construction of the boundary wall by force without taking any objection from the farmers. It should be noted that the boundary of Raju Mia’s house on the north side of the canal and Shaheen Mia’s agricultural land on the south side of the other agricultural land owners are outside the canal. They have been doing agriculture by irrigating water from that canal for a long time. However, as the canal is full, an application has recently been made to the District Commissioner on behalf of the local residents for excavation. If the canal is dug, the production of paddy will increase along with agricultural activities. The local residents also said that Ripon Gazi, a soldier named Ripon Ghazi, built a border wall on the north side of the disabled full housing center on the Mokambazar-Offisbazar road by occupying the government guide wall and the road. Ripon Gazi first occupied the agricultural land by dumping soil on the guide wall while filling the soil. Cover it with bamboo and kanchi by planting some vegetable plants and kachu. After that he put a bamboo fence. Finally, he constructed the boundary wall with cut and tin and illegally occupied the entire government guide wall and road land. The concerned UP members and chairman have been verbally informed about this but no action has been taken so far.
