The newly appointed principal of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr. Human chain was held against Mahfuzar Rahman against conspiracy and spreading rumors with false information. On Sunday (November 3, 2024) at 11 am, this human chain was held in front of Rangpur Press Club under the banner of conscious Rangpur residents, past and present medical students and well wishers. About five hundred people of various classes and professions participated in the human chain.
Speakers in the human chain said, one party to steal their own benefits, the newly appointed principal Dr. Md. They have been blocking Mahfuzar Rahman from joining the post of principal by making false accusations. Dr. Md. Mahfuzar Rahman became the Principal of Rangpur Medical College with his qualifications. Since he is the principal, the friends of the previous Awami League government will not be able to take advantage, so they are trying to remove him by making false and fabricated allegations against him. If Mahfuzar Rahman is prevented from joining the post of Ramek’s principal, a warning has been given to form a strict movement from the human chain. Bir Muktijoddha, vice-president of Haji Kalyan Sansthan presided on behalf of conscious Rangpur residents. Liazur Rahman spoke on behalf of the general public and Jannatul, Mahmud and others on behalf of the students.
Vice President of Haji Kalyan organization Vir Muktijoddha. Shahjahan said, ‘Dr. Mahfuzar Rahman did not do any politics during the Awami League government. As a result, he was not promoted from Vice Principal in the last 5 years despite having qualifications, rather the previous government transferred Dr. Mahfuz to Dinajpur on 30th July 2024 to accommodate their people. The interim government evaluated him and posted him as the principal of Rangpur Medical on the basis of merit. Government decision should be accepted by all. Mahfuzar Rahman is needed for the development of Rangpur Medical College, for the development of the hospital. But a cabal is conspiring to overthrow him. We strongly protest this.’
Mizanur Rahman Lulu, general secretary of Reporters Club Rangpur, who participated in the human chain, said, ‘Mahfuzar Rahman is a child of Rangpur. The government promoted him on merit. Rajibul Islam, the head of the forensic department who conducted the autopsy of Abu Saeed, himself said after the uprising that the then principal-vice-principal and other colleagues helped him in preparing the report. Later, when the vice-principal was promoted to the position of principal, the head of the forensic department, Rajibul Islam, changed his words and said that the then vice-principal, Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzar Rahman did not cooperate with him. This clearly shows that it is a conspiracy. A vested interest has emerged. If Dr. Mahfuzar Rahman is the principal, they will not be able to do corruption. Therefore, various conspiracies and false rumors are being spread to remove him from the post of principal.
It is to be noted that on October 29, Dr. Md. Mahfuzar Rahman was promoted from the vice-principal of Rangpur Medical College Hospital to the position of principal. The very next day, anti-discrimination doctors, employees, students held a protest demanding the removal of the newly appointed principal. On this day, the principal’s room was locked.
Meanwhile, Rangpur Medical College has announced a 2-hour strike and complete shutdown to demand the removal of the newly appointed Principal Mahfuzar Rahman. On Sunday (November 3) at noon, the agitating anti-discrimination students, teachers and employees announced this.
The agitators said that if Principal Mahfuzar Rahman is not relieved, Rangpur Medical College (RAMEC) will be shut down for 2 hours from Tuesday and there will be a complete shutdown on Wednesday
