Communal violence case in 13 people including former UP chairman sentenced

The court sentenced 13 people to prison in a case filed in the case of communal violence in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria. Brahmanbaria Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Masud Parvez announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
In the case of arson in the old Durga temple in Paschimpara area of Nasirnagar Upazila Sadar, each person has been fined two thousand taka in addition to imprisonment. Out of these eight cases, one verdict was announced for the first time.
District Court Police Inspector (Inspector) Didarul Alam confirmed the verdict. Apart from this, the lawyers of both sides have also confirmed the matter.
The convicts are, Md. Mokhlesh Mia, Md. Mofizul Haque, Khosru Mia, Nazir Rahman, Md. Mafuz Mia, Idu Mia, Sheikh Md. Abdul Ahad, Sayham Rabbi Shyam, Mir Kashem, Anis Mia and Tabarak Reza, Sajib Chowdhury and Dewan Atiqur Rahman Ankhi. Among them, Atiqur Rahman is the former chairman of Haripur Union Parishad. The houses of all the convicts are in different areas of Nasirnagar upazila. Five of them are absconding. The rest were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Sadhan Kanti Chowdhury, the then Sub-Inspector (SI) of Nasirnagar police station, is the plaintiff in the case of arson in the old Durga temple. After a long investigation, the investigating officer of the case submitted the charge sheet to the court accusing 13 people.
According to court and Nasirnagar Thana police sources, Rasraj Das, a resident of Harinber village of Haripur Union of Nasirnagar Upazila, was attacked and set on fire on October 30, 2016, on 30 October 2016, after a Hindu-dominated area of Nasirnagar Upazila was attacked and set on fire. Eight cases were filed in Nasirnagar police station in these incidents.
The defendant’s lawyer, Kamruzzaman Mamun, was offended by the verdict and said, ‘In any case, minimum evidence is required. But 13 people have been sentenced in this case without evidence. We did not get justice. An appeal will be made to the High Court against this verdict.
Additional Public Prosecutor of the State Advocate and Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. Nazmul Hossain said, ‘The court announced the verdict after analyzing the evidence and trial. This is exemplary judgment. Justice has been established through this judgment.
