Comilla City Corporation has given a budget of 1 thousand 44 crore taka based on development grant and own income.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, the target of income from own sources has been set at 79 crore 35 lakh 32 thousand taka and 835 crore 55 lakh taka will come from development grant. The initial funding is shown to be 129 crore 53 lakh 46 thousand Tk .
City Corporation Mayor Doctor Tahsan Baha announced the budget in the Atindra Mohan conference room of the city building on Sunday (June 30) at noon. Later, Chief Accountant Md. Masudur Rahman presented the main part of the budget.
At that time City Corporation Panel Mayor Habibur Al Amin Sadi, Md. Manzoor Quader Moni, Kauchara Begum Sumi along with ward councilors and senior officials were present.
One of the city’s problems, including waterlogging, is allocated the most in the development sector in the budget. Allocation has increased in all sectors including waste management, mosquito control, water supply, tree plantation. There has been an increase in the salary and allowances sector as well.
Dependence on Development Grants: It has been almost three months since Tahsin Bahar, the present Mayor of Comilla City Corporation, assumed charge. This is his first budget. The budget of the previous mayor late Arfanul Haque Rifat was 718 crore 21 lakh 61 thousand taka. The size of the budget has increased compared to last time. Like last time, the budget is dependent on development grants. In the financial year 2024-25, the development grant in the budget of 1 thousand 44 crores is 835 crores 55 lakhs.
The highest expenditure in the development sector: In the first budget of the current mayor, the highest expenditure sector is in the development sector. It will cost 968 crore one lakh 25 thousand taka.
