Although hilsa is available in various bazaars in coastal areas including Amtali in Barguna, the price is beyond the purchasing power of common people. Although the supply of hilsa has increased, the price has not decreased. Hilsa was sold at the same price when there was a famine, but now the supply is sufficient, but it is being sold at the previous price. If the production of hilsa increases further, the local fish traders think that it is possible to reduce the price.

On Tuesday (October 1), Amtali Fish Market, Taltali Fakir Hut and Fish Landing Center found that the supply of hilsa has increased in the last 2-3 days. Large size hilsa is caught less but medium and jhatka hilsa are getting more.

Trawler owners and fishermen said that after the end of the blockade, when they go to fish in the sea, the weather will become an obstacle to the fishermen’s earning. After searching in various markets on the coast, it was found that 500 grams of hilsa is 35,000 taka, 1 kg or more hilsa is 72,000 taka. Money is being sold.

Taltali’s Fakirhat market fishmongers said that sea hilsa from 500 grams to 600 grams is 50 to 52 thousand taka, 700 grams weight is 52 to 54 thousand taka, also the price varies depending on the size, weight and quantity of hilsa caught.

In Amtali fish market, hilsa weighing 500-700 grams is sold at Tk 1,200 to 1,300 per kg, hilsa of 800 grams to 900 grams is sold at Tk 1,500 to Tk 1,700 per kg, hilsa of 1 kg or above is sold at Tk 1,800 to Tk 2,250 per kg. It is not possible for the middle class, lower middle class or poor people of the coast including Amtali to buy hilsa at this rate.

The fish sellers said that they have not got fish for a long time. For the last two days, I have received fairly good hilsa, the price is also good. Shrimik Nazrul, who came to buy fish after seeing the high supply of fish, said that it is not possible for us to buy hilsa at the same price.

Noor Alam, a fishmonger of Amtali fish market, said that Hilsa has been marketed in large quantities in the fish market for the last 2-3 days. But the price is a little higher due to the demand. The price is a bit higher due to high demand.
Amtali Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Tanmoy Kumar Das said, we have a committee to determine the market price. They will set the price.
