 The detective police arrested a Chhatra League activist named Israfil Apu (30) and his alleged wife Liza Akhter along with yaba and ganja in Savar. Dhaka District North Detective (DB) Police Officer-in-Charge Riaz Uddin Ahmed (Revolution) confirmed the matter on Thursday afternoon. Earlier, they were arrested from Majidpur in Savar on Wednesday late night. Arrested Israfil Apu Savar Sadar Union Chhatra League activist and son of deceased Yunus Ali of Mazhirhat village of Sadar Upazila of Bhola district. 1 kg of ganja and 120 pieces of yaba were recovered from him. Another drug dealer associate and his alleged wife Liza Akhter (26) is the daughter of Phul Mia alias Alamgir Kabir of Kasba police station in B-Baria district. 1 kg of ganja and 80 pieces of yaba were recovered from him. There are 3 cases against Israfil and 4 cases against Liza, including drug extortion. According to the detective police, the arrested are professional drug dealers. After being arrested with 10 kg of ganja on the night of March 6, Israfil was once again dealing in drugs after coming out on bail. Later, Israfil and his accomplice Liza were arrested on Wednesday night based on a tip-off. A total of 2 kg of ganja and 200 pgs of yaba were seized from them. Later, a case was filed against them at Savar Model Police Station. Riaz Uddin Ahmed (Biplob), officer-in-charge of Dhaka District North Detective (DB) Police, said that regular operations will continue to eliminate drugs. Savar Upazila Chhatra League President Atiqur Rahman Atiq said that Chhatra League has no relation with Israfil. He is not aware of involvement in crime using the name of Chhatra League. A Chhatra League leader, who did not wish to be named, said that Israfil was involved in various crimes including drug trade, extortion with the help of Sohel Rana, the expelled president of Savar Sadar Union Chhatra League. Due to the sale of drugs, they started a love relationship with the daughter of ganja seller Leena Begum and now they are introducing themselves as husband and wife.
