Cases filed against 520 AL leaders in Cox’s Bazar

A case has been filed at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, naming 520 Awami League leaders at the district, upazila, municipality, union and ward levels.

Enamul Haque, a representative of the anti-discrimination student movement, filed the case as the plaintiff on Friday (March 21) night.

He is the son of Nabi Hossain of Chadek Fakir Para, Chambal Union, Banshkhali, Chittagong and currently lives in Jhilanja Union, Cox’s Bazar Sadar.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station OC Mohammad Ilias Khan confirmed the case.

The case report states that on August 4, between 6:30 pm and 8 pm, various crimes were committed in Cox’s Bazar city, including creating fear and terror among the public, attacks with the intention of killing, and the use of explosives.

The case names 520 people including Awami League central leader Sirajul Mustafa, District Awami League President Faridul Islam, General Secretary Mujibur Rahman, former MPs Saimum Sarwar Kamal, Ashek Ullah Rafiq, Zafar Alam, Abdur Rahman Bodi, former Cox’s Bazar Municipality Mayor Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, former District Council Chairman Mustafa Ahmed Chowdhury, Shahinul Haque Marshall, Cox’s Bazar Municipality Awami League President Najibul Islam. In addition, 250 more people have been named as unidentified accused in the case.

The accused in the case include leaders of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League, and leaders of districts, upazilas, municipalities, and various wards. In addition, the name of district JSD leader Mohammad Hossain Masu is also on the list of accused.

It is worth noting that a total of 22 cases have been filed in 9 upazilas of Cox’s Bazar district so far after the August 5 incident.
