Case against 4 police officers including former SP, OC in Pirojpur – PBI investigating on orders of court

The court ordered the PBI to investigate the case filed against the former Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur, OC of Sadar Police Station and 4 police officers. After the hearing of the case on Wednesday afternoon, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Moha: Helal Uddin directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case.
A case was filed in the court against 4 police officers including former Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur Mohammad Shafiur Rahman and former OC of Sadar Police Station, Salauddin Talukdar Kumar, who was detained illegally for 38 hours in the police station and tortured with weapons. On August 28, Zilla Chhatra Dal Organizational Secretary Salauddin Talukdar Kumar filed the case in the Pirojpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court. The other accused in the case are the former SI of Sadar police station. Monirul Islam and Inspector (Investigation) Md. Zulfikar Ali. Besides, another 4/5 people have been made unknown defendants in this case.
In the statement of the case, Kumar mentioned that on November 4, 2023, around 11:30 pm, unknown persons in white clothes picked him up from the road in front of his house in North Krishnanagar under Pirojpur municipality. He was then handed over to the patrol police at around 12 o’clock in the night. The next morning the policemen handcuffed him and blindfolded him with a black cloth. Then the main accused in the case, the then OC of Sadar police station, Abir Mohammad Hossain started beating him severely with a cane in front of the police station. After beating Kumar for 2/3 minutes, Abir started kicking him when he became dull. The OC then pressed him to extract such a confession that he had firearms. Later that night, he was again handcuffed, blindfolded and taken to a cemetery near his house by the police. Then the police took out a weapon and handed it to Kumar and took a picture. He was later sent to court the next day with a case under the Arms Act.
Kumar said that he was brutally tortured in the police station and sent to jail on false charges. He was released from jail after 4 long months of imprisonment. Kumar’s lawyer Akram Ali Mollah said that the case was filed on August 28. After the hearing on Wednesday, the judge directed the PBI to investigate the case.
