Earthquake across country including Dhaka, 23 km away from Sylhet

A moderate earthquake was felt across the country including Dhaka. Its magnitude was 5.5 on the Richter scale. The duration was about 15 seconds. The epicenter of the earthquake was just 23 km from Sylhet city and 4 km from Sylhet’s Kanighat in the state of Meghalaya. However, no damage information was immediately available. The earthquake was felt on Monday (August 14) at 8:50 PM. At the same time, the earthquake was also felt in the neighboring countries of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. Meteorologist Muminul Islam of Dhaka Meteorological Office confirmed this information to Jago News. He said, the origin of the earthquake was 241 km away from Dhaka. When the earthquake was felt in the capital, the residents panicked. At that time, many people went out of the house in fear. As the earthquake was felt, fear spread among the residents of Sylhet. However, no damage was reported. Abdul Hakim, a resident of Bagbari residential area of Sylhet city, told Jago News that their multi-storey building was shaken by the earthquake. Lasted several seconds. However, there was no damage. Tariful Nawaz Kabir, meteorologist of the Meteorological Department told Jago News that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.5 on the Richter scale. The source of this moderate earthquake was 228 km away from the capital’s Agargaon earthquake monitoring center in the Indian state of Meghalaya.
