Dhaka Transport Coordinating Authority (DTCA) Executive Director (Additional Secretary) Neelima Akhtar commented that bringing order to public transport is the need of the hour.

In a discussion meeting organized in the DTCA meeting room this morning for bus route rationalization and discipline in public transport, the Executive Director sought the cooperation of all concerned and emphasized that the use of new technology in new buses should be ensured.

The president said that the piloting program under the bus route rationalization program was not successful in the past. Both routes are still operated by BRTC buses. However, due to the violence of illegal buses, we could not provide the expected service. However, he expressed hope that DTCA will play a decisive and important role in starting disciplined transport in Dhaka city.

Executive Director Neelima Akhtar also said that to bring discipline in the public transport sector, strict measures will be taken against buses without route permits and route violations and training of drivers and assistants will be undertaken in combination with public and private institutions. Plans for cancellation of defunct routes and new routes will be revised as necessary based on the recommendations prepared by DTCA. Already more than 110 bus stops have been constructed through DNCC and DSCC. If necessary, more bus stops will be identified and constructed, the president said.

The meeting was attended by representatives of BRTA, BRTC, DSCC, DNCC and other related departments/organizations, DTCA officials and representatives of Trust Transport, Borak Paribahan, HR Transport interested in bus management.
