Gazi Md. Gias Uddin Bashir Jhalakathi : On Sunday after Iftar when the Maghrib prayers were being held at the mosque, miscreants attacked the Doctor Patti in Jhalakathi city, where there are about fifty gold shops. However, many have made two kinds of comments about whether it was an attempt at robbery or an attempt to disrupt law and order.
Many eyewitnesses who saw the incident said, ‘First, the miscreants threw a sound bomb in front of Parma Jewelers. After 25/20 seconds, another bomb exploded. People did not move away at the sound of the bomb, and hundreds of people came out on the streets to prevent the miscreants. Then, bricks were thrown at the miscreants from a five-story building.’
Some local shopkeepers said that at one point, the miscreants detonated two bombs in a row in front of Al Amin Jewelers and Ujjal Guinea House in a blue pickup truck. When people quickly came down to the road, the miscreants fled from the city in the pickup truck. While leaving, they threw another sound bomb at Sadhana intersection, targeting the police.
When the news spread that the blue pickup truck had exploded and fled towards the Fire Service intersection through Sadhana intersection during an attempt to rob a gold shop in Daktarpatti, an eager crowd gathered in the Daktarpatti area. The miscreants immediately left Jhalakathi.
Meanwhile, while the miscreants were fleeing, they also detonated a bomb there when they tried to stop their vehicle at Shaitpakia in Nalchiti upazila on the Jhalakathi-Barisal highway. A policeman and a 12-year-old child were injured there.
Meanwhile, District BNP Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain visited the scene and said that the supporters of the fallen dictatorship have committed robbery attempts, bomb blasts and shooting incidents to deteriorate the law and order situation in the country and spread panic among the people. District BNP strongly condemns and protests such activities. BNP will prevent such anarchy and misdeeds along with the people.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman said, ‘Looking at the behavior of the miscreants, it seems that this was not an attempt or intention of robbery. Their intention was to create deterioration of law and order across the city. Immediately, the police, RAB and army visited the scene.’
