 A discussion meeting was held on the occasion of celebrating World Consumer Rights Day in Paba Upazila of Rajshahi under the theme “Safe Energy, Consumer Friendly Earth”. Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Wazed Ali Khan, Upazila Agriculture Officer Shamsun Nahar were the guests in the discussion meeting organized by the upazila administration in the Upazila Parishad meeting room on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Upazila Executive Officer Lasmi Chakma. Under the supervision of Upazila Rural Development Officer Shamsunnahar, Upazila Assistant Programmer Shahidul Islam Shahid presented various topics of the day. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Asaduzzaman, Upazila Education Officer Rafiqul Islam, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Shimul Billah Sultana, Upazila Youth Development Officer MMN Zahurul Islam, Upazila Accounts Officer Abul Kalam Azad, Upazila Food Officer AKM Fazlul Haque, Shahmukhdum Thana Investigation Officer Nazrul were present. Islam, Paba Thana SI Jahangir Alam, Upazila Islamic Foundation Representative Muslehuddin, Information Officer Ginia Sharmin, Panel Mayor-3 Reshvanu Begum of Nohata Municipality. In the President’s speech, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lasmi Chakma said that the administration is trying to protect consumer rights. Anti-adulteration operation is being conducted in the upazila markets. Action has been taken against the shops where adulterated medicines, cosmetics mixed with harmful substances, adulterated products were found in the market. This campaign will continue in the future. He also said that keeping the market stable by displaying the list of goods and prices in view of the upcoming month of Ramadan. Do not manipulate the weight. He shed light on various issues including not mixing and adulterating food products and not selling expired products. He said, “After joining, I conducted an anti-adulteration campaign. I found color lightening creams in the market and took action against them. To prevent adulteration, traders and buyers should be aware of themselves, others should be aware, if they see adulteration, they should be prevented. The number of educated traders is less so they need to be made aware. Anti-adulteration committees will be formed in Hat Bazar of different unions of the upazila to increase awareness. The representatives of the committee should monitor the traders and make them aware.
