A robbery was carried out at the house of a former bank official in Laksam, Comilla. The robbers hacked retired bank official Ohidur Rahman and beat up four people including his wife and children, and robbed him of five lakh taka in cash and eight bhori of gold ornaments.
The incident took place on February 24 (Sunday) at around 2 am in Purba Aushpara Game of Mudafarganj North Union of the upazila.
A relative of the injured bank official Ohidur Rahman, Master Masudur Rahman, said that around 2 am on Sunday, a group of 15-20 masked armed robbers entered the house of the retired bank official by cutting the gate of the house and breaking the door of the house. When the robbers entered Ohidur Rahman’s bedroom, the bank official noticed and shouted that the robbers were robbers. The robbers hit him on the head with weapons and he fell to the ground. When his wife and children screamed at the bloody wounds, they also beat them up. Four people were injured. The robbers broke the furniture and cupboards of the house and looted five lakh taka in cash and eight bhori of gold ornaments. Later, sensing the presence of people, the robbers fled. Immediately after the incident, the bank official was rescued by his relatives and brought to the Laksam Upazila Health Complex. He was then taken to a hospital in Comilla for advanced treatment.
The daughter of the former bank official, Ankhi Akhter, said, “When the robbers saw the bloody wounds on my father’s head, I screamed at that time and took the gold ornaments that were with me and my mother’s. Seeing my father injured and screaming during the robbery, the robbers took the goods and fled through the Fosili land field to the west of our house towards Dimatuli and Kathalia villages.”
Laksam Daulatganj Sonali Bank’s former officer Ohidur Rahman is the son of the deceased Qari Abdul Hakim of Aushpara village in the upazila. He retired about three years ago.
After receiving the information, Assistant Superintendent of Police Laksam Circle Somen Majumdar visited the scene. At that time, he said, I have visited the scene along with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Police Station and the police are working on the robbery. Legal action will be taken soon after collecting information.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Police Station Nazneen Sultana said, after receiving the information, I visited the scene. A knife used by the robbers in the robbery has been recovered. Through investigation, we will be able to arrest the robber gang quickly.
