Bangladesh is seeking full power supply from Adani’s power plant in India. A Bangladeshi official has given this information. For the past three months, half of the capacity has been supplied from there. This is due to the issue of outstanding payments and low demand in winter.

Due to the delay in paying the dues, the Indian company halved the supply to Bangladesh on October 31. After that, power generation and supply of one unit has been stopped since November. At that time, Bangladesh also said that it would supply half of the power to Adani.

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) said that Adani is being given $85 million a month to pay the dues and now the company has been asked to resume supply from the second unit as well.

BPDB Chairman Md. Rezaul Karim said, Adani’s company had planned to start the second unit as per our current demand. However, due to high vibration and some technical problems, it was not possible.

He said, at the moment we are making payments of $85 million every month. We are trying to pay more. Our aim is to reduce the overdue. There is no major problem with Adani now.

The Adani Group’s coal-fired power plant located in Godda, Jharkhand, India, has a generation capacity of 1,600 MW. The plant has two units of 800 MW each.

In 2017, the state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) signed a purchase agreement with Adani during the reign of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh will buy the electricity generated from the plant, built at a cost of $2 billion, for 25 years. Commercial electricity production from the first unit of Adani’s power plant began in April 2023. Commercial production from the second unit began in June of the same year.
