Sylhet Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management) Padmasan Singh said, Bangladesh is a country of six seasons. Each season has its own characteristics and beauty. But due to global warming, the characteristics of other seasons are now decreasing. Now only summer is seen, winter is gradually getting shorter. Last year, the temperature was around 40 degrees. Similarly, this year too, it is feeling hotter. In fact, due to climate change, we are moving towards desertification due to some of our own activities. The fears of climate change that were mentioned in books as a child 30-40 years ago are being reflected in reality today. The way we are destroying the environment through carbon emissions, deforestation, and free cutting of hills and mountains, we will have to pay the price to ourselves and our next generation. Tourist centers like Jaflong and Bichnakandi are on the verge of destruction today. Wherever we go for picnics, we leave food packets and water bottles there and make it dirty. We have to come out of this. We ourselves do not know how much we torture nature. That is why nature also takes revenge. Events like drought, heavy rain, flash floods, river erosion, and landslides are happening before our eyes. That is why we need to be aware. We have to work together to prevent all types of environmental pollution including air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution. To protect the environment, we have to plant more trees during the monsoon season. If we keep the environment good, then the environment will also keep us good.

He further said, in this context, adaptation is our survival strategy. Not just survival, but building a sustainable and environmentally friendly life for the future. And the participation of young people in this adaptation is very important. This is not just a fair, it is a kind of awareness and social movement. Through this fair, we will know how we can all play a role in combating the effects of climate change at the individual, family, educational institution and community levels. Let us all pledge together – to protect the environment, be aware and build a green and safe world for future generations.

He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of the two-day Climate Fair-2025 organized by the Islamic Relief Bangladesh, the Iqra Project, and YouthNet Global with the support of the Sylhet City Corporation at the Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar in Chouhatta on Wednesday (April 16) at 12:30 pm.
