‘Bali’ leaves Bangladesh for Oscar nominations

Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury’s film ‘Bali’ (The Wrestler) will fight for the nomination from Bangladesh in the Best International Feature Film category of the 97th Academy Awards (Oscar). It was submitted when Bangladeshi films were invited for nominations in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.

It was finalized by the 97th Oscars Bangladesh Committee after watching the film on Tuesday (October 1) night.

The film won the highest New Currents Award at the 28th Busan International Film Festival, one of the country’s notable awards for cinema. Although ‘Bali’ has been released in various film festivals around the world, the movie has not yet been released in Bangladesh.

Government grant film ‘Bali’ in FY 2020-21. The film is produced by Piplu R Khan. Saiful Azim and Gausul Alam Shaon are co-producers.

Nasir Uddin Khan played the lead role in the film. He was seen in the role of a grumpy jailer in Sagarpar. Besides, Priyam Archie, Angel Noor, AKM Itmam and others also acted.

The 97th Academy Awards will be held on March 2, 2025, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Awards will be given to 24 branches at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. ‘Best International Feature Film’ is one of them.
