Md. Nur Islam Noyon:

Keeping in mind the theme “Antimicrobial Ineffectiveness: Know Yourself, Tell Others, Now is the Time for Prevention”, an awareness meeting was held on the occasion of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week-2024 under the auspices of the Antimicrobial Resistance Containment, Viral Hepatitis and Diarrhea Control Program, Disease Control Division, CDC, Directorate General of Health, Mohakhali, Dhaka, implemented by the Dinajpur Civil Surgeon’s Office.

On this occasion, on Thursday, November 21, in the conference room of the Dinajpur Civil Surgeon’s Office, in the presence of doctors of various fields, administration officials, hospital and health workers of the Civil Surgeon’s Office, an information meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dinajpur Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Shah Muhammad Sharif as the chief guest. Dr. Md. Fazlur Rahman, Superintendent of the 250-bed General Hospital, said in his speech that antibiotics are important as life-saving drugs. Antimicrobial drugs mean germicides or drugs that inhibit the reproduction of germs which are used as prevention, but unnecessary use of antibiotics helps in the production of antibiotic-resistant bacteria which are identified as very harmful to the human body. Every year, 1.3 million people die in the world due to its misuse.

We need to be aware of this issue at home, which will continue to work for the next generation. To join the ranks of developed countries, we need to build antimicrobial resistance resistance from now on.

Senior Health Education Officer of Dinajpur Civil Surgeon’s Office Md. Saiful Islam, who was the excellent moderator, spoke at the 250-bed General Hospital, Senior Consultant Dr. Ashutosh Dev Sharma (Gynaecology), Senior Consultant Dr. Shila Ditya Shil (Surgery), Consultant Dr. Qayyum (Pediatrician), General Secretary of Dinajpur Kalitala Press Club Golam Nabi Dulal, Drug Supervisor of Dinajpur Drug Administration Department Md. The administration should keep an eye on the sale of antibiotics without prescription from various pharmacies. The public should be informed about the ill effects of antimicrobials. For this, it is necessary to create awareness among families first. In order for us to develop as a prosperous and healthy nation in the future, we need to create resistance to antimicrobial resistance.

The speakers also said that many people will die in the coming days due to excess antibiotics, not only humans but also animals and fish. Everyone should come forward to be aware of its misuse.
