The police have arrested a man named Monir Hossain (48) in connection with the beating of Abdul Mannan Tawhid, Jhalkathi district correspondent and contractor of Bhorer Kagaz Patrika and extorting money.
The arrested Monir is a resident of East Chandkathi area of the city.
On Monday (February 19) in the afternoon Jhalkathi police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Shahidul Islam confirmed the arrest.
In the written complaint, the victim Mannan Tawhid said that there was a dispute with the accused Monir regarding business matters. Due to that dispute, Monir asked me to come before the Water Development Board from home on the morning of February 12.
When I got there, Moni’s people grabbed me by the neck and pushed me into a tea shop, blocked the door of the shop and started beating me with a rod chip stick in hand. At that time, 70,000 rupees kept for the purchase of paint for the office building of the Water Development Board in my Punjabi pocket was snatched away.
Md. Shahidul Islam, OC of Jhalkathi Sadar Police Station, said that Monir was arrested in the morning. He was sent to the court in the afternoon.
