Awami League leader accused of obstructing and vandalizing mosque construction work

An Awami League leader has been accused of obstructing and vandalizing mosque construction work in Batamara, Muladi.

Local sources have informed that a mosque was built in 2006 with the help of locals in Rahim Bazar, Ward 7 of Batamara village, Batamara union, Muladi upazila. It is currently dilapidated. With the help of Qatar Charity, the president of the local mosque committee, A. Motaleb, son of the late Rafizh Uddin Sikder, and Lt. Col. Shahaduzzaman Shahed, son of the late Shajahan Sikder, donated 500 acres of land to the mosque, and the work of building a concrete building for the mosque began there. Local Awami League leader Mizanur Rahman opposed the work from the beginning.

In this regard, the president and general secretary of the mosque committee complained that Mizanur Rahman demanded a large sum of money from the beginning of the work of the mosque, when we refused to pay the money, now he has come with his people and made various threats to stop the work of the masons, demanding that he get land in the mosque land.

When the local Muladi police were informed about this incident, the police went to the spot and ordered them to resume work. In view of this, Mizanur and his people vandalized the construction work of the mosque last Thursday night. Locals said that Mizanur Rahman has been occupying other people’s land in the area for a long time, and now he has set his sights on the mosque land as well.
