Mohammad Aman Ullah:
Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP standing committee member and former State Minister for Communications Salahuddin Ahmed said, there is no need to waste time in the name of reforms to determine the electoral roadmap. Reforms will be based on the 31 points given by BNP. Reforms are just a continuous process. Understand the pulse of the people and hold elections quickly before December. Addressing the chief advisor of the interim government, Salahuddin Ahmed said, some of your advisors do not understand the pulse of the people. Admonish them. Or send them away. Do not go against the people. Prevent the rise in prices of daily necessities according to the speed of the mass uprising. Pay attention to improving the law and order situation. Strongly suppress the attempts of the fallen Hasina’s cronies to cause unrest. He said, ‘Those who want proportional elections do not know the meaning of political proportions. Local elections do not put a political party in power. The constitutional institutions of democratic reforms and all the actions to protect democracy will be determined in the National Parliament.
He said the above while speaking as the chief guest at a huge public gathering organized by Cox’s Bazar District BNP at Cox’s Bazar Gol Chattar Ground (Freedom Fighter Ground) on Monday (February 17) afternoon. The district BNP organized this huge public gathering as part of the program announced by the central BNP across the country for various public demands including keeping the price increase of daily necessities at a tolerable level, improving the deteriorating law and order situation, announcing an electoral roadmap for a quick transition to the democratic path, and confronting various conspiracies and attempts of fascism in the state.
Speaking as the chief guest at the public gathering, Salahuddin Ahmed said, ‘The mass uprising of 1969 shattered the dream of Pakistan and dictator Ayub Khan died a political death. And in 1975, Sheikh Mujib himself created his own grave by establishing a one-party regime in Baksal. His daughter Sheikh Hasina completed the burial of the Awami League by creating the grave of the Awami League on August 5, 2024. Now the Awami League has died in Bangladesh, and has been buried in Delhi. The dead Hasina is sitting in Delhi talking after being shrouded. Hasina, the advocate of fallen fascism, is trying to create instability in the new Bangladesh by speaking after being shrouded. It is not permissible to talk about the dead.
He said, ‘Awami League and democracy are contradictory words. The Awami League, namely Sheikh Hasina, did not do politics in this country. She established a parliamentary dictatorial state, as well as murder, disappearance, and looting. Because of which Sheikh Hasina is now a murderer recognized by the United Nations and the world. In protecting the salt industry of Cox’s Bazar, he said, the majority of salt in the country is produced in Cox’s Bazar. Maintain the fair price of salt. There is a demand for importing salt from abroad to destroy the domestic salt industry. Make a separate plan for the salt farmers of Cox’s Bazar to save the country’s salt industry. Otherwise, the salt farmers will be forced to stop production.
Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, Organizing Secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee, spoke as a special guest at the public meeting held under the chairmanship of Cox’s Bazar District BNP President, former MP and Whip Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury. He said, “Fascist Sheikh Hasina has brought the country’s democracy to the extreme level and has herself drowned the party. Their party did not even think about the leaders and activists for a minute. India is sitting and trying to destabilize the country. The leaders and activists must be vigilant about the conspiracy of our fallen government. The party’s Central Fishermen Affairs Secretary Lutfar Rahman Kajal said, political parties do not dare to hold public meetings in this huge field. Only BNP has dared to hold public meetings in this field. He said that I would like to highlight four issues that are currently the biggest problems in the country. One of these is to control the prices of goods, the law and order situation has deteriorated to the point that it needs to be improved quickly. The people’s aspiration is to hold early national elections. For this, the current government must hold national elections without delay. Along with this, the torture carried out by the fallen Hasina government in the last 15 years must be brought to justice.
Central Co-Organizing Secretary Harun Ur Rashid said, you must be more willing from now on to strengthen this organization built by the late President Ziaur Rahman, the advocate of multi-party democracy in the country. You must remember that if the fascists rise again, no one will exist. He urged every leader and worker of BNP to be vigilant about the conspiracies District Sramik Dal President Rafiqul Islam, District Jubo Dal President Advocate Syed Ahmed Ujjal, District Krishak Dal Convener Gias Uddin Afsel, District Matsyajibi Dal President Mohammad Mustafa, District Chhatra Dal leader Fahimur Rahman, along with leaders of district BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Sramik Dal, and Chhatra Dal.
Meanwhile, after 1 pm on Monday, leaders and activists began gathering at the rally site with convoys and processions from various places around this BNP rally. At this time, the rally site became abuzz with slogans, holding colorful banners and festoons.
The formalities of the rally began at 2 pm. Ignoring the scorching sun overhead, a large number of leaders and activists thronged the Gol Chattar field in Cox’s Bazar city before the rally began. Lakhs of people eagerly gathered in the open field. The waves of the sea of people reached beyond the field and even beyond the boundary wall. In the last 16 years, BNP has not had the opportunity to hold such a large-scale rally in Cox’s Bazar in the political arena. Therefore, the enthusiasm of the leaders and activists was endless. Along with the leaders and activists of 14 organizational units in 9 upazilas of the district, the general public also joined the rally.
