A coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement in Pirojpur has been accused of attacking, vandalizing and stealing money from the site of the under-construction model mosque. On Friday, between 12:00 and 12:30 pm, a group of 30-40 people led by coordinator Musabbir Mahmud Sunny attacked the site of the under-construction model mosque near the Pirojpur Municipality. At that time, the attackers ransacked the living quarters of the staff and employees there and the site office, snatching 5 lakh taka from the office room and breaking the CCTV installed there and taking its hard disk, the employees of the contracting company alleged.
They alleged that coordinator Sunny demanded a ransom of 20 lakh taka from them a day before the incident. Meanwhile, immediately after the attack on the model mosque site, the toll collection room of the Baleshwar Bridge in Pirojpur was also set on fire.
However, Sunny denied these allegations and claimed that the work on the model mosque was going on illegally. Therefore, the protestors attacked the protestors after a procession taken out by the students demanding the ban on the Awami League. Sunny claimed that he had no involvement in it. He also denied the allegation of extortion.
Meanwhile, after visiting the scene, Pirojpur Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Mukit Hasan Khan said that the matter would be investigated and further legal action would be taken. He also said that the victims have been asked to file a complaint with the police station.
After visiting the scene, the site manager Md. Shahidul Islam filed a complaint with the Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, accusing 20/25 people including Musabbir Mahmud Sunny, Md. Sanjid and Md. Sajidul Islam Joy.
It is worth noting that Musabbir Mahmud Sunny was an active member of the banned organization Chhatra League in the past and has been proven to be a loyal worker of former MP from Pirojpur 1 constituency and former minister SM Rezaul Karim.
