The 118th birth anniversary of Sachin Dev Burman, the renowned music artist of the subcontinent, was celebrated with due dignity in Comilla.
On this occasion, tributes were paid by offering wreaths at the initiative of the Comilla district administration at the mural installed at the artist’s ancestral home in Chartha of the city on Tuesday morning.
First, Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kayshar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarbik Pankaj Paduah paid tribute by giving flowers on behalf of the district administration. After that, various socio-cultural organizations including District Shilpakala Academy, Heritage Comilla, Comilla Cultural Association, Jasas Comilla paid tribute to the artist.
District Cultural Officer Ayaz Mabud, Kabi Nazrul Institute Comilla Officer Md Alamin, President of Heritage Comilla Jahangir Alam Imrul, former General Secretary of Comilla Cultural Association Khairul Anam Raihan, Jasas Comilla convener Sirajul Islam Milon and other leaders of various organizations.
Sachin was born on October 1, 1906 in the royal family of Tripura in this house of Comilla city Charthar. He stayed in Comilla till 1924. Later, Sachin settled permanently in Bombay, India.
After that, this house was abandoned for a long time. The government of Pakistan has built an official poultry farm in the building. In 2014, it came to the attention of the authorities when a report of Machranga Television was aired. The government took the initiative of reforming the district administration by freeing a part of the poultry farm.
On October 31, 1975, Sachin Dev Burman died of cancer in Mumbai. He was buried there.
