Police have arrested a young man named Tarequl Islam alias Chu-Ilya Tareq (24) on charges of molesting an American woman working at the Cox’s Bazar office of the United Nations. The victim of the molestation is Elizabeth Kenin. The incident took place at around 5 am last Monday in the Circuit House area of ​​Cox’s Bazar city. The arrested young man is the son of Faridul Alam of Ward No. 8 area of ​​the city. Cox’s Bazar District Police Spokesperson Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury said that the American woman went out for a walk in the city with her companion at 7 am.
At one point, when they went to the Circuit House area, the young man followed them and at one point approached them. At that time, he suddenly hugged the woman for a moment and ran away. The victim, an American citizen, informed the district police about the incident. As soon as the complaint was received, the Sadar Model Police Station launched several raids.
At one stage of the raid, the police were able to arrest the accused youth, Tarequl Islam alias Chu-Ilya Tareq, from the Jhautala area of ​​the city around 4:30 pm.
Cox’s Bazar Police Superintendent Md. Saifuddin Shaheen said that the incident was very sensitive. The IGP himself also supervised this incident. As soon as the complaint was received, the raid was started and the accused was arrested within 5 hours. The young man was initially found to be mentally disturbed. The victim has filed a complaint against him.
