Cox’s Bazar Court has issued an arrest warrant against Daily Bangla Acting Editor Sharifuzzaman Pintu and reporter Arifuzzaman Tuhin for not appearing on the scheduled date of the summons. Last Sunday (August 27) afternoon, Judge Kaushik Ahmad Khondkar of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court (SADAR) issued this warrant. According to the details, on January 6 of this year, Dainik Bangla Patrika’s main headline titled ‘No one in the list of 255 badi’ was published, targeting 20 people with fabricated information and publishing the names of 20 people. In the said news, the then staff reporter of Dainik Yugantar and former Cox’s Bazar correspondent of Baisakhi Television and Daily News journalist Shafiullah Shafi was also revealed. Later on January 10, Shafiullah Shafi filed a defamation case of Tk 100 crore in the court against Dainik Bangla acting editor Sharifuzzaman Pintu and reporter Arifuzzaman Tuhin as a plaintiff. The court took cognizance of the case and directed the OC of Cox’s Bazar District DB Police to submit a report to the court after investigation. The OC of DB Police ordered Inspector Sujan Kanti Barua to investigate the case and submit a report to the court as per the instructions of the court. The investigating officer submitted the investigation report against the accused to the court on June 15 after a long 6-month investigation. According to the fixed date, the court on Thursday afternoon, July 6, ordered the two defendants, Arifuzzaman Tuhin and Sharifuzzaman Pintu, respectively, to appear before the court by August 27. But as the two defendants did not appear in court on Sunday, August 27, the court issued an arrest warrant against the two people. Peshkar Amir Hossain of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court (Sadar) said that the two defendants in the defamation case filed by journalist Shafiullah Shafi on January 10, were arrested on Sunday ( 27 August) ordered to appear in court. But the court issued arrest warrants against the two persons due to non-appearance of the accused. The two defendants are Arifuzzaman Tuhin and Sharifuzzaman Pintu. The plaintiff’s lawyer Ayachur Rahman said that after completing the investigation for the past 6 months, the investigating officer submitted the report to the court. Taking into account the investigation report, the judge ordered the two accused to appear. But because the accused did not appear, the court issued an arrest warrant against them.
