SB-Sujon, Lalmonirhat Correspondent:
Retired army sergeant Rashidul Islam’s mother and brother, along with his family members, were seriously injured in an attack by land bandits in Lalmonirhat over land disputes. Journalist Mazharul Islam Bipu and his college-aged daughter have been threatened with death in the incident. Two people who were seriously injured in the incident are admitted to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital. The incident took place last Friday afternoon in the Teesta Education area of Sadar Upazila.
Although two complaints have been filed with Sadar Police Station in this regard, no case has been recorded, let alone the arrest of the accused. When a complaint is filed with the police station, the terrorists have been threatening to withdraw the complaint.
The plaintiff in the former army sergeant case, Md. Rashidul Haque, has stated in his statement that I have been occupying the property listed in the lower schedule, which is approximately 200 yards east of my house and was purchased by my late father for a long time. In this situation, the defendants, Md. Asma Begum and her husband Md. Anwar Hossain Picchi, Md. Abul (65) and his brother Md. Abdul (55), Md. Zaherul (42) and his brother Md. Mamun (33), Md. Sohag (24), Md. Haider (50), Md. Razzak (45), father Md. Abul and the unknown defendants, in collusion with each other, have been trying to forcibly occupy the part of the lower schedule land I received from my ancestral lineage and have been threatening me in various ways.
Then I tried to reach a compromise with the defendants several times by informing local dignitaries about the incident, but the bandit-like defendants did not accept the compromise and started making various threats. Then on 20/12/2024 at approximately 4:15 pm, I and my workmen started building a house on the lower schedule land. At that time, the mentioned defendants were armed with indigenous weapons such as bamboo sticks, iron rods, axes, spears, etc. and prevented me from building a house on my ancestral property. At that time, when my younger brother Md. Rabiul Islam (40) protested against this wrongful act of the said defendants, the land-grabbing terrorists beat my brother Rabiul Islam indiscriminately with bamboo sticks and iron rods, causing injuries in various parts of his body.
At that time, my mother Rasheda Begum Bewa (65), came to the spot and tried to save my younger brother from the terrorists, but the terrorists grabbed my mother’s hair and threw her to the ground and attacked other members of my family. Then, on the cries of my brother and mother, local people came to the spot and saved my sick mother and Rabiul Islam from the terrorists and later admitted them to the hospital. So far, the two injured are undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital. Retired Army Sergeant Rashidul Islam has filed a complaint in this regard at Sadar Police Station.
Retired Army Sergeant Rashidul Islam also said that since journalist Mazharul Islam Bipu is my closest relative, when he and his college-going daughter came to the spot and recorded a video, the land robbers humiliated them in various ways and threatened to kill them. Journalist Mazharul Islam Bipu has filed a complaint at Sadar Police Station. As of the writing of this report, two cases have been recorded and the accused have not been arrested.
this regard, Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Quader said, “We have received the complaint and will investigate and take action against the guilty persons.”
