The Arakan Army has captured 19 fishermen along with four trawlers from the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. They were captured from the Gholarchar and Naikshangdia areas of Shahparir Dwip in the upazila on Thursday (February 20) morning. They are Md. Kala Mia (37), Md. Nurul Alam (39), Abdul Rahman (19), Md. Aul Lam Ahmed (29), Md. Laila (11), Md. Kabir Ahmed (43), Md. Yunus (23), Nurul Islam (34), Md. Lutfar Rahman (23), Rahim Ullah (21) of Majher Para, Shahparir Dwip. The identities of the remaining 9 fishermen could not be found.
Shahparir Island UP member Abdus Salam said that 10 fishermen from Shahparir Island were detained by the Arakan Army along with a trawler from the Gholarchar area of the Naf River on their way back from fishing. However, it is not known from which border they were detained.
Teknaf Kayukkhali fisherman Nur Mohammad said that the Arakan Army had detained nine people, including Bengalis and Rohingyas, from Naikshangdia in two boats at the municipality’s Kayukkhali Ghat in the morning. However, their identities could not be identified. Earlier, the Arakan Army had detained four Bengalis and six Rohingya fishermen along with a trawler and it has been 10 days since the Arakan Army released them.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said that the Arakan Army had detained 19 fishermen along with a trawler from two points in the Naf River. Our law enforcement agencies are working to bring them back.
