Staff Reporter:
Md. Arafat Hossain (6), a child suffering from cerebral palsy, wants to live with his family in the light and air of the world. “If Arafat, who is suffering from cerebral palsy, undergoes surgery on his damaged brain, he will be able to recover and return to a normal life. His parents’ dream of getting an education will be fulfilled, and he will be able to return to his parents’ lap.”
Arafat Hossain (6) is the son of Md. Abdul Munnaf Sheikh and Md. Sathi Begum of Indurdi area of Nawabpur union of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari. Arafat’s parents were dreaming of educating their son and moving forward. In July 2019, Arafat suddenly had problems twice. He was treated by a nearby doctor. Then, pediatrician Md. Mizanur Rahman examined him and sent him to Faridpur Children’s Hospital. He was treated there for 15 days for the first time and returned home. The second time, he went for treatment for 15 days after 1 year and came to know about the incurable disease. The doctors at Faridpur Children’s Hospital advised him to be taken to CRP in Dhaka. On the advice of the doctor here, he went there and underwent various tests and found out that he had cerebral palsy. He was admitted to Savar CRP and treated.
Arafat’s father, the only earning member of the family, works as a carpenter. In this low-income family, he was leading a family life with his wife and 2 children. In the meantime, his eldest son was diagnosed with a complex disease called cerebral palsy. For a long time, the poor carpenter has been selling his low income and debts, collecting installments and getting his son treated. Now, his only resources are 2 percent of the land in his father’s house and a tin house to rest at the end of the day. I am talking about the carpenters Md. Abdul Munnaf and Md. Sathi Begum of Indurdi village of Nawabpur union of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari. They need a lot of money to get their son Md. Arafat Hossain treated. That is why they are hoping for the sympathy of charitable people in the country and abroad.
According to doctors, the only way to treat this disease is through surgery. However, there is no such treatment for this disease in our country. It is possible to do it in Chennai, India, a neighboring country. However, a lot of expenses will have to be borne for this. The treatment requires 10 to 15 lakh taka. The family of child Arafat has sought the cooperation of the wealthy people of the society.
Neighbors Md. Zaman, Md. Shahina Begum and Md. Khadija Akhter said, Arafat is the first child of Munnaf-Sathi couple. After his birth, their family life was going on in a very happy atmosphere. When Arafat was one and a half years old, he developed an unusual condition. The disease was detected while undergoing treatment. Now they are very financially damaged. They have sold and given all the resources for the treatment. If the wealthy people of the society come forward, maybe little Arafat will be able to live in the light of the world.
Local reserved women member Md. Marjina Khatun said, “For 4/5 years, poor Munnaf has been destitute after getting her son Arafat treated. Now it is not possible for her to raise the money that the doctor has promised for the medical expenses. If the philanthropists of the society come forward, perhaps Arafat’s family will be able to get proper treatment. Therefore, she appealed to everyone.”
