More than four lakh people of two upazilas have demanded the restoration of the former Barguna-3 (Amtali-Taltali) parliamentary seat of Barguna district to the interim government. The people of this area have suffered greatly due to the abolition of this parliamentary seat surrounded by Bay of Bengal and Payra river. Rural people are demanding the restoration of this parliamentary constituency deprived of development and communication.

It is known that Barguna-3 (Amtali-Taltali) parliamentary seat has been an independent seat since independence. From independence till 2001, there were 3 parliamentary constituencies in Barguna district. Among them, there were 112 Barguna-3 constituencies with Amtali-Taltali upazila. Barguna-02 parliamentary constituencies with Barguna Betagi and Barguna-03 constituencies with Patharghata Bamna.

In 2008, the caretaker government abolished this seat (Amtali-Taltali) and merged it with Barguna district headquarters, without considering the administrative structure, size, actual and population of the Delimitation Ordinance 1976, Section 6 (2). The common people of Amtali-Taltali upazila are deprived of development due to the arrangement of seats by the caretaker government on the basis of population.

Between Barguna district headquarters and Amtali upazila headquarters, 4 km wide Burishwar (Paira) river. During the rainy season, this river takes the form of fire. It causes unlimited suffering to the common people. There is no end to the suffering of the people of this town without guardians, cut off from communication and deprived of development.

Amtali surrounded by Bay of Bengal and Payra river has not reached the touch of development in Taltali upazila. Considering ancient, historical, geographical, population and number of voters, former 112 Barguna-3 constituencies, which were abolished, are the demands of the people of this town.

Freedom fighters, politicians, civil servants, society, teachers, farmers, fishermen, Rakhine people from all walks of life are united in demanding the restoration of the parliamentary seat (Amtali-Taltali) which survived by fighting with nature after facing various natural calamities including cyclone, floods, Sidor and Aila. They strongly demanded that this seat be retained.

Member Secretary of Amtali Upazila BNP Md. Tuhin Mridha said, the people of Amtali-Taltali are deprived of development due to the abolition of the parliamentary seat. We demand the reinstatement of this seat.

Joint convener of Amtali Upazila BNP. Zahirul Islam Mamun (VP) Mamun said that he strongly demanded the government to reinstate the seat 112-Barguna-03.

Joint convener of Amtali Upazila BNP Maqbul Ahmed Khan said that the people of Taltali-Amtali are suffering due to the abolition of seats. People will suffer and I demand the restoration of the seat.

Former president of Amtali Upazila BRP. Jalal Uddin Fakir said that in 2008, the caretaker government deliberately abolished Barguna-3 (Amtali-Taltali) constituency and made two constituencies in Barguna. Amtali Taltali seat is deprived of development, it is urgent demand of common people to restore this seat.

Former convener of Taltali Upazila BNP. Farhad Hossain Akkas Mridha said, I strongly demand to the interim government for the restoration of Amtali Taltali parliamentary seat.

Amtali Upazila Awami League President former municipal mayor. Matiar Rahman said, I demand restoration of 112 Barguna 03 constituency for the common people of this region.

Ad. Gazi Touhidul Islam, son of Amtali, Joint Secretary General of Lawyers Nationalist Lawyers Forum Central Committee of Bangladesh Supreme Court, said that in 2008, the caretaker government deliberately abolished Barguna-3 (Amtali-Taltali) constituency and made two constituencies in Barguna. The people of Amtali-Taltali are suffering. He also said that it is absolutely necessary to restore this seat for the benefit of the people. I have met the Chief of the Election Commission Reform Committee Dr. Badiul Alam Mazumder and he said that the matter will be looked into.

Awami League nominated candidate in 2002 by-election, candidate for independent parliament in 2024, former upazila parishad chairman Alhaj¦ Golam Sarwar Forkan said, Amtali-Taltali constituency was independent since independence. In 2008, the caretaker government administrative structure, size and actual This seat (Amtali-Taltali) was abolished only on the basis of population without inspecting the situation on the ground and merged it with Barguna Sadar seat. The people of Amtali-Taltali were deprived of development. He demanded on behalf of the people of Amtali Taltali to the interim government to restore the seat as soon as possible.

Amtali Upazila Parishad ex-chairman Virmuktijoddha Adm. MA Quader Mia said Amtali Taltali parliamentary constituency is the demand of all the people of this region.

Abdul Majeed Mallick said that in 2008 the caretaker government purposely abolished Barguna-3 (Amtali-Taltali) seat and made two constituencies in Barguna. He also said that the parliamentary seat (Amtali-Taltali), which has survived fighting with natural disasters, Pramatta Payra river and nature, freedom fighters, political, civil, society, teachers, farmers, fishermen, Rakhine people from all classes of professions are united for the benefit of the people. Reinstatement of this seat is absolutely necessary. Before the last parliamentary elections, I applied to the Election Commission along with the Chief Election Commissioner and the common people of Amtali Taltali formed a human chain from Taltali to Shakariya of Amtali and in front of the Dhaka National Press Club. Then I heard this matter in the Election Commission for 1 hour. Then the Election Commission assured to restore the seat. But I still don’t know why they didn’t do it. We want the current Election Reform Committee and Election Commission to reinstate Amtali Taltali parliamentary seat.

112-Barguna-3 Amtali Taltali BNP party former member of parliament Alhaj Md. Matiar Rahman Talukder said that the demand for the life of all the people of Amtali Talukdar is to restore the parliamentary seat. Amtali-Taltali upazila people of all professions demand the restoration of the parliamentary seat to the interim government.
