Ambassador of Nepal meeting with the Home Affairs Adviser

Today 8 September  2024  Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) had a courtesy call on Ambassador of Nepal Ghanshyam Bhandari to Bangladesh in his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital this afternoon.

During the meeting, various issues of mutual interest were discussed, including the development of mutual relations between the two countries, increasing trade, providing security to Nepali students, simplifying the visa process, sharing information on flood forecasting and warning.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Adviser welcomed the Ambassador. The Ambassador expressed solidarity and solidarity with the Interim Government of Bangladesh established by the anti-discrimination student movement on behalf of the Government of Nepal and assured all kinds of cooperation.

The advisor said that Nepal is one of Bangladesh’s closest neighbors and one of the first few countries to recognize it as an independent country. The ambassador said that despite the close contact between the people of Bangladesh and Nepal, the volume of trade is not as expected. He emphasized on increasing mutual trade between the two countries.

The ambassador said that about 3 thousand Nepali students are studying various subjects including medical in Bangladesh. He sought the assistance of the adviser on the security of the students and requested to ease the visa process. The adviser assured full cooperation in this regard.

The ambassador expressed his sympathy to the people affected by the recent floods in Bangladesh and said that the source of some rivers in Bangladesh and Nepal are similar so the two countries can cooperate with each other in flood forecasting and warning. Accordingly, Nepal is ready to cooperate with Bangladesh by providing necessary data in flood forecasting.

In the meeting, mutual information exchange and strengthening of cooperation were also discussed in order to solve the outstanding issues between the two countries.

Yojana Bamjan, Second Secretary of Nepal Embassy in Dhaka, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs were present in the meeting.
