In Chapainawabganj Shibganj, employment for the very poor or the 40-day program, the chairman and UP members have been accused of filling the soil with tractors.
This irregularity has been alleged in the work of the second phase of the “Employment Organization Program for the Very Poor” project in the fiscal year 2022-2023. According to the affected workers and local residents, the government is implementing this program for the socio-economic development of working poor families through short-term employment in the project. Monthly income is less than Rs 4000. Such unskilled workers are willing to work, or are not getting work, 1 person from a family is selected for work.
There are allegations that capable people have been appointed for this work through various irregularities and corruption. The soil is filled with tractors by taking up the project as desired and without employing laborers.
Shafiqul Islam, son of Qayyum Uddin of Charlakshipur village of Panka Union of Shibganj Upazila, said that although the project includes digging or re-digging of ponds, canals, construction of road embankments, development of rural infrastructure (roads, bridges), irrigation works and waterlogging relief, the UP chairman-members He said these things by showing the desired projects and filling the soil with tractors and embezzling money.
Abdul Malek, chairman of Panka Union Parishad, denied the allegations. He said, the allegations are completely false and fabricated. Such allegations have been made to disturb the Union Parishad. Properly completed the employment scheme for the extreme poor.
Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abul Hayat said over the phone that the chairman and members of the Union Parishad were initially warned after receiving several written complaints. He said that strict legal action will be taken if the complaint is proved subject to investigation.
