Patuakhali Dumki in Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer Md. Sumon Mia has been accused of not submitting the nomination form of female UP member Lucky Begum of Ward 1, 2 and 3 reserved seat on the last day (June 18) of filing nominations for No. 5 Srirampur Union Parishad election. Lucky Begum went to the Upazila Election Officer’s office at 1:30 PM to submit the nomination form and did not take her nomination on the pretext of lunch. When he went to the election officer’s office again at 4 pm, the security personnel did not allow the candidate to enter the office to submit the nomination form on the pretext that the time was running out. And in this way, the election officer did not accept the nomination form of Lucky Begum, a popular woman UP member candidate in the area. On Sunday, at 1:30 PM, when the nomination form was submitted, the security personnel at the office gate first blocked the entry. He was asked to come after half past two. Even though he went to the office again, his nomination form was not submitted on the pretext that it was past 4 pm. Despite many pleas, he (Election Officer) did not heed. After unsuccessfully informing the upazila executive officer Md Al-Imran, Mr. UNO asked him to submit the nomination form under special consideration, but he (election officer) did not listen to it. The district administration, district election officer was reminded about this the next day, but the problem related to submission of nominations was not resolved. Laki Begum, a regretful woman member candidate, demanded justice by blaming the election officer Suman Mia for not allowing her to submit her nomination form. Denying the complaint, the Upazila Election Officer Md Sumon Mia said that the nomination forms of the candidates were accepted from 8 am to 4 pm on the last day of nomination form submission. Her (Lucky Begum) form was not submitted as she came after the scheduled time.
